Dia My Story(1 Carat)

Dia is a young artist that you definitely need to listen to. She has a powerful voice and knows how to control it. I was introduced to her through Mardi with her single Another Boy. My Story is Dia’s debut album featuring singles Another Boy and Cry Cry, from her mini album of the same name, and new songs ‘It Rained All Day’,’온세상에 눈이 내리면’/

This is another collaboration post, with guest writer Mardi( from Luminosity)! Since she was the one to introduce me to Dia, I thought it would be a good idea to ask her thoughts of her favorite under rated. Mardi’s part is in green and my part is in black. Continue reading Dia My Story(1 Carat)

Battle of the Bands: BRIGHT vs. Tenjochiki

I think anyone who reads the reviews on this site know that I (Arie Jai) am a huge fangirl of both BRIGHT and Tenjochiki/CSJH The Grace. They have amazing voices, can harmonize and dance well, are terribly under rated and a lot of people compare them frequently on each others videos.

The first song I heard from The Grace was their Korean single, Dancer In The Rain and the first Japanese song A Little Bit of Good a piano based ballad. I listened to different clips of them singing a capella medleys and I was blown away – I had never heard anything like that from a pop group. The first BRIGHT song I heard was ‘Shining Butterfly‘ that I was led to by watching Tenjochiki a-nation videos. I didn’t really care for Shining Butterfly, but I liked their sound so I looked them up  and found their song Brightest Star. I listened to that song for about 2 months straight because it was just so catchy. After listening to them for about a year, I found myself always comparing them so I decided to give an in depth breakdown of both groups. Continue reading Battle of the Bands: BRIGHT vs. Tenjochiki

2PM Don’t Stop Can’t Stop

Here’s another collaboration! This time with Arie J and NyNy. I’m in the regular type and NyNy is italicized.

2PM released this mini album after the whole ordeal with Jay leaving the group. I honestly don’t remember this because I wasn’t really paying attention to K-pop at the time , I was more preoccupied with J-pop.

Despite what happened in February, 2PM still made a comeback against all odds. What can I say? They are brave. I come back from holiday and didn’t know what to say really. I guess they were going to make a comeback sooner but I would have expected it to be later this year.

BoA Identity

I think in almost every BoA review, I compare her voice to this album. BoA made her comeback to Japan with Identity, an album that she produced after her attempt in the US.

Identity debuted at #2 on the daily Oricon albums chart with 14,023 units sold in its first day and at #4 on the weekly chart with 37,606 copies sold, making it her first Japanese album that did not chart to number 1, ending her streak of studio albums debuting at #1 on the Oricon weekly charts. “Identity” also became BoA’s only studio album to not reach over 100,000 units sold and not receive certification.

Jung-In From Andromeda

The former lead vocalist of G.Fla, R&B singer Jung In makes her solo debut with the mini-album Jung In From Andromeda. The songstress has worked with artists like Leessang, Drunken Tiger, Dynamic Duo, Brown Eyed Soul, and Bobby Kim. Epik High’s Tablo, Clazziquai’s Alex, and Jewelry’s Park Jung Ah and Ha Joo Yeon all lent their voices to the mini-album produced by Leessang’s Gil, and Lee Juck also penned Hate You. 8eight The Bridge

Mixed trio, 8eight, returned to the music scene with a completely different concept for their title track ‘Validity Period’ going with a synthesized electro beat. Unfortunately, some Korean fans weren’t very fond of the change in the vocal group, so the group went back to the studio to make ‘The End Is Coming’, written by Bang Si Hyuk who also wrote their hit, Empty Heart for their mini album The Bridge.

Clazziquai Mucho Punk

Classical jazz, funk and group Clazziquai went on a short break for Alex to release his solo album ‘My Vintage Romance’ and Horan to join project group Ilbadi and release Never Ending Story. The group came back together in 2009 to produce Mucho Punk.

I have been listening to this group every since I first heard Romeo and Juliet on We Got Married. Mucho Punk kept that techno fun that Clazziquai is known for and took it to a more modern level. Continue reading Clazziquai Mucho Punk

Big Bang Since 2007

Remember when Big Bang and DBSK were the dominating groups in K-pop? The good ol’ days without autotune and people actually singing. Anyways, I like the original R&B sound that Big Bang had like with this album instead of their latest Japanese singles that are pretty much an autotune fest.

Big Bang debuted with ‘Since 2007’ , a album with heavy R&B influences. It was mostly written by G-Dragon, but he also had some help from the other members. The album was released December 2006. It sold 110,408 copies and reached the number 1 spot on the weekly charts. Continue reading Big Bang Since 2007

Perfume – Nee/ねぇ

01. ねぇ (Hey)
02. FAKE IT

They can sing without the auto-tune yet they use it. Perfume is known as a Techno-pop 3 member group in Japan and quite successful. There’s something about Perfume and their strange attempt since debut to use autotune in their songs that actually is quite successful and makes me go back to the J-Pop scene.
